Shade protection: Hot afternoon shade helps protect the plant in very warm climates.
Well-draining: Use a rich, loose potting mix or garden soil that drains well.
Fertility: Moderate fertility works best; avoid overly rich soil or heavy fertilizers that cause leafy growth instead of flowers.
Consistent moisture: Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy or waterlogged.
Check depth: Water thoroughly when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch.
